![]() ![]() NEW LISTING 7/4/08 (click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) KLIPSCH HERESY HWO WALNUT VENEERED STEREO / PA SPEAKERS SOLD 7/4/08 70S118 & 119 Circa 1978 for sale Klipsch Heresy speakers. One of the all time classic speakers evidenced by it's long lived model life from 1957-1985. Even after 1985, it still remained the same speaker, with a few modifications to keep the cost down (main cost saving change was to switch from the expensive 9-ply, void-free, marine grade plywood to particle board for the cabinets). I used to be a dealer for all the classic Klipsch models in the 1980's. This pair is one that features 9-ply, void-free, marine grade, plywood cabinets. Features: - Floor Standing or "Bookshelf" design - 3-Way / 3-driver, Acoustic-Suspension (Sealed) speaker system - 12" K-22-EF Woofer with non-deteriorating, corrugated surround - K-77-V Midrange Horn 2" (5.08cm) Phenolic diaphragm compression driver - K-77 Tweeter (2.54cm) Phenolic diaphragm compression driver and Ultra-High top end. - 90°x40° Exponential Horn for wide dispersion (designed after the famous EV T-35) - "REAL" crossover network Type-E (with "oil-can" capacitors) Specifications: Crossover points: 700Hz and 6kHz. System Sensitivity: 96dB @ 1W, 1m Frequency Response: 50-17,000Hz +- 5dB Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each Cabinet: Void-Free, 9-ply, Marine Grade plywood w/ Real Walnut wood Veneer Maximum recommended power: 100 watts continuous per speaker with peak power possibilities of 10 times that amount Maximum recommended power Amp: 100 RMS WPC This is a consecutively serial numbered pair of Heresy's. These speakers are in great shape with the only minor cosmetic issues being a strip of replacement Walnut veneer along the bottom of #11?. These are in a much better shape than my personal pair and among the cleanest pairs we have had. These have the original, 9-ply, Marine Grade, Void free plywood cabinets unlike the new versions since the mid '80's that are made of particle board. They are veneered with Walnut wood and finished to a slightly reddish' brown. We have completely gone through them, including installing a back panel foam gasket & adding poly baffling material to cut down on ring. We have completely tested them including sweeping them with an audio generator looking for any acoustical anomalies or extraneous noises or sounds. They work and sound great! As with all the classic Klipsch designs, these are incredibly efficient, yet able to handle huge transient volume / power. Lots of crystal clear "top-end" that can be "shaved off" where desired with tone control. Great all around speaker for just about any type of music, listening habits and environment. One of the "must have" of the classic speaker models. Each measures 22" high x 15.5" wide, & 13" deep and weighs 36 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering). KLIPSCH HERESYS HWO MEDIUM WALNUT Cond. 8.5 $799. pair SOLD 7/4/08

Essentially the same speaker as the famous AR-10π without the bass control that was another $100 each originally. Nearly "defined" sound for years to come. You will love the detail, definition and bass response of AR speakers and especially the 11's. I was a dealer for these when they were new, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but it's not without merit. These are in excellent condition as well. Features include: - 3-Way, 3-driver design - 3/4" Hemispherical dome tweeter - 1.5" Hemispherical dome midrange - 12" Woofer with good condition foam surrounds - Dual 3-position mid and high frequency attenuators - "Screw post" speaker terminals - Incredibly well built crossover - Heavy build cabinets Specifications: Frequency Response: 27Hz - 30kHz Crossover points: 525Hz & 5000Hz Sensitivity: 86dB @ 1W, 1m System impedance: 4 ohm Power Handling: 150W program, 200W peak per side Again these are incredible sounding boxes. One of the best speakers ever made under a Grand! The real Walnut wood veneer, cabinets in good shape with typical scuffing here and there. The original brown foam grills surprisingly still in excellent shape. Very accurate, detailed sound!!! Cabinets measures 25" high x 14" wide x 10.75" deep and weighs a hefty 50 lbs each. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering). AR 11 AR11 Cond. 8.5 Original MSRP in '78 was $350 ea. That's about $2,400 a pair today! $599. pair |

The Realistic "Mach One". This was Radio Shack's "flagship" and is still an incredible performer. In 13 years of dealing audio, Mach One's have been elusive. We just purchased 4 pair from one audio fan who bought them all when new. I have been a dealer for just about everyone over the past 25 years. I have sold and / or auditioned speakers priced from $80 a pair to $120,000 a pair Genelecs. I can usually "sum up" my opinion of a pair of speakers, good, bad or indifferent, in about 5-8 minutes of listening. Now I am not comparing these to speakers priced anywhere close to $100,000 plus, but I did spend about 3 hours listening to the Mach One's in our test system and was completely impressed. Great "Wall of Sound" at all volume / power levels and can certainly get loud with no handling problems. We have completely gone through these, not only addressing new woofer foam (and yes, Mach One suspensions did "age well" and would appear not to need to be replaced, but they have become stiff and require specific "Mach One / Two" series foam), but also discovering an issue with compressed horn / driver gaskets that will allow these to buzz and vibrate at certain frequencies. We installed new gaskets on them which solved the issue which was very elusive to figure out. We also disassembled the mid horn drivers and removed any accumulated debris / dust for distortion free performance (amazing what can find it's way in there after 20+ years). After installing the new foam, each woofer was AF swept from 2000 Hz all the way down to 18 Hz! Likely just like you, I remember seeing these in the Radio Shack catalog and then seeing the price, thinking maybe "someday". Well maybe "someday" is here. Features include: - 3-way, Bass-Reflex design -15" Low Frequency Driver (woofer) with 4-Layer, brass VC capable of frequencies to 20 Hz. Cone is molded with asymmetrical ribs to reduce power robbing "eddy currents" -Multi-Cell, 30 x 90 Mid horn with Dome diaphragm driver -Horn Tweeter with Compression Phase Plug - Mid and Tweeter Attenuators with infinitely variable L-Pads ranging from -6 to +6 dB Specs: Frequency Response: 20-25,000Hz Efficiency: 90dB 1w @ 1m Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each Cross-over frequencies: at 800Hz & 8kHz Recommended Power amplifier rating: 100+ watts The real wood, dark Walnut veneer cabinets in great shape, as are the original brown, acoustically transparent grills. Only cosmetic issues are a couple of nicks on the top, front edge of one of the cabs and small veneer chips on the other (see lower right photos above). Grill frames perfect with no broken or repaired parts. Tweeter / Attenuator mounting plates have a few cracks around the screw holes that seem to be common on most of these. Not a "sonic" performance issue. Both woofer surrounds just replaced with new foam for years of trouble-free service. The Walnut wood veneer cabinets have just had a fresh coat of lemon oil rubbed in to bring out their original luster. Great speaker for just about any volume level and any genre of music. Perfectly happy as back ground music reproducers or for "peeling paint off the walls" at your next party! Look, work and sound great!. Cabinets measure 28.5" H x 17.5" W x 12" D and weighs a hefty 52 lbs each. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering. (click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) PRE-APPRECIATED BOSTON ACOUSTIC A200 II A-200 SERIES II STEREO SPEAKERS Circa 1979-'83 Made in USA for sale One of the rarer of the Boston Acoustic models. The Boston Acoustic A200 stereo speakers. The "200" was the original Boston Speaker when they had 1 model of speaker. Great speaker for detail, balance and that big "wall-o-sound" presence. Features include: - 3-way, Bass-Reflex design -10" Low Frequency Driver (woofer) -4.5" Ferrofluid Cooled Mid- Range in it's own, isolated enclosure to reduce dB robbing bass reflections -1" Soft-dome, Ferrofluid Cooled Tweeter - Rear located, Mid and Tweeter protection fuses Specs: Frequency Response: 40-22,000Hz +- 2dB (36-25kHz @ - 3dB) Efficiency: 91dB 1w @ 1m Nominal Impedance: 8Ω nominal / 6Ω minimum Cross-over frequencies: at 450Hz & 3kHz Recommended Power amplifier rating: 15-250 watts While these speakers are physically large, it is not without reason. Their expansive baffle board serves to reduce any "out of phase" reflections / wave anomalies from neighboring surfaces. This way the speaker can "control" it's sonic results, instead of having it's environment as the major contributor. Secondly the tall stature of the A200 puts the tweeter more on plane with your ears, instead of your knees. The real wood, dark Oak veneer in great shape, as are the original black knit grills. Grill frames perfect with not broken or repaired parts. Both woofer surrounds just replaced with new foam for years of trouble-free service. Great speaker for up to mid volume levels. Again, these are more "detail" oriented speakers not "Power Pounding Party" speakers. If that's what you're looking for then don't buy these. These are "definitive" classic Boston speakers. If you're looking for "true" wide frequency response, balance and detail then these may be the speaker for you (great for most all types of recordings; R&R, POP, RAP, Jazz and new-country, acoustic guitar recordings & classical / symphonic / string music. Very accurate, detailed sound!!! (Note: the close-up of the wood side in the collage photo above, is spot on as far as the hue / color of the actual finish. It's normally very difficult to show the actual color of speakers in photos). Cabinets measure 41" H x 21" W x 6.5" D and weighs a hefty 58 lbs each. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering). BOSTON A200 Cond. 8.5 $599. pair (Due to the nature of these speakers, S,H & I will be a considerable expense. Custom, double-wall boxes will be manufactured specifically for them. This will add 5-10 days to their ship time.)

AUDIO EQUALIZERS and our philosophy on them. "Are Equalizers really necessary? I just paid $30 grand for my speakers. They shouldn't need any EQ. Right!??" Short answer is yes, an EQ will generally be beneficial to most systems. Most speaker designers strive to make a speaker's curve as "flat"* as their projected size parameters and target retail price will allow. The human hearing curve is not "flat". Most folks' hearing is accentuated in the midrange (it's where the human voice is centered) and attenuated in the bass and treble. Sort of a reverse "rock-n-roll smile" curve. When you hear a good, "flat" response speaker, it will likely appear to have an over abundance of mids, at least for most listeners. It will also likely have a deficiency in bass and possibly treble. It will most likely sound "thin", the degree of which can vary from slight to extreme, depending again, on many variables. This might not even be readily apparent when auditioning speakers, but generally if you hear a pair speakers with an appropriately adjusted, EQ engaged, then you listen to it bypassed, you will want to re-engage it as quickly as possible. The classic arguments against using an EQ have been that an EQ, or any additional inserted signal processing device, makes the signal path less "pure" and adds noise. Also, again, "these speakers were expensive and shouldn't need an EQ". To address the first point, this issue can usually be reduced to a more than desirable point by utilizing a high quality EQ or signal processor. The noise floor should certainly be below audible levels, and it doesn't take too much of an EQ to achieve that for most folks systems. While the first point is valid, a good EQ's benefits usually far outweigh any minor noise issues, which are probably below most listeners audible limits in the first place. The second issue was answered previously, in the above paragraph. In fact, the better the speakers, the more they would likely benefit from a reduction of the midrange frequencies, due to their as "flat as possible" curve. Again, this would apply to the average persons hearing curve. Some "cheap" speakers, will have a "rock-n-roll smile" EQ curve built-in by utilizing drivers, crossover and cabinet combinations, that have an over abundance of bass and treble, and a deficit of mids by design. That would beg the question of "why wouldn't they all just do that then". The answer to that is that any respectable speaker manufacturer wouldn't try and dictate a built-in curve into a speaker other than as flat as assigned parameters will allow, for a number of reasons. Another less apparent, but still valid reason for utilizing an EQ can be to compensate for listening room acoustic characteristics. This is generally more difficult to assess, but overtime could become a desired need. This need would obviously change with any parameter change in the listening environment. Also, and no offense, but as we age and as we are exposed to various, sometimes, injurious sonic environments and events, our sensitivity to frequency ranges will change. One way to look at a specific speaker / listening environment combination is to think of it as a blank artists canvas. A really high quality speaker system would be comparable to a high quality canvas, brushes and material. Said another way, a "non-flat" EQ curve / listening environment / speaker combination is akin to starting your painting with a dirty, blotchy canvas. The listening environment to a well lit room with natural lighting, conducive to a creative mood. Until you "shape" the EQ, there is no painting on the blank canvas. Once you shape the EQ to your tastes, in a way that compliments the speaker design / room combination, you have created your work of art. While I can appreciate all the arguments for not using an EQ, in the end, I generally use an EQ with it's curve slightly boosted in the bass and treble frequencies and attenuated through the mid frequencies from "Zero" position (the "rock-n-roll smile" curve). It will usually require adjustment following any change in speakers, listening environment parameter adjustments and with the material I am listening too. I also have a 1/3 octave RTA monitor / spectrum analyzer with a pink noise generator and analyzing mic to establish an accurate "flat" point to start from. * Contrary to a somewhat common misconception, "Flat" does not mean "dull". "Flat" refers to the graphic "curve" of a speakers output when analyzed by a spectrum analyzer. Ideally a speaker should be able to reproduce the human hearing range with all frequencies as close to "zero" (even amplitude or "flat") as is practical for the intended design / price point levels. The listener can then modify it from there by various methods (usually some sort of signal processor such as an EQ) to their tastes. |

NEW LISTING 1/22/08 (click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) PRE-OWNED SANSUI MODEL S-930 S930 #...2053 STEREO SPEAKERS Circa 1984-86 for sale Great Sansui 3-way speaker system. The S-930. I have a bit of a "bias" towards these as I sold them at the first hi-fi dealer I worked for in the early 80's. I used to show them often, but usually sold their "little brothers" the S-730 and S-530 due to their lesser price. If I really wanted to show off an amplifier or receiver, I would run it through these. Great, balanced sound, nice punchy bottom end. Very efficient and bright where they need to be. Great speaker where mid to higher volumes are desired. Features include: - 3-Way, Acoustic Suspension cabinet design - 12" ribbed paper cone woofer with non-deteriorating, cloth suspension - 4" paper cone midrange w/ Mylar dust cap - 3/4" Mylar dome tweeter with diffusion lens - Presence / Treble control for tailoring top-end Specs: Frequency Response: 30-22,000Hz Efficiency: 92dB 1w @ 1m Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each Cross-over frequencies: at 3.5kHz & 6kHz Recommended Power amplifier rating: 110 watts We have completely tested all drivers. Tested for all frequencies with a sweep generator. Wood grain vinyl wrapped cabinets in great condition with a few normal scuffs. NEW LISTING 1/22/08 (click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) PRE-OWNED SANSUI MODEL S-917 S917 STEREO SPEAKERS Circa 1984-86 for sale Great Sansui 3-way speaker system. "Military / European / Asian" version of the US marketed S-930. I have a bit of a "bias" towards these as I sold the S-930's at the first hi-fi dealer I worked for in the early 80's. I used to show them often, but usually sold their "little brothers" the S-730 and S-530 due to their lesser price. If I really wanted to show off an amplifier or receiver, I would run it through the S-930's (again, essentially the same model as these 917's). Great, balanced sound, nice punchy bottom end. Very efficient and bright where they need to be. Great speaker where mid to higher volumes are desired. Features include: - 3-Way, Acoustic Suspension cabinet design - 12" ribbed paper cone woofer with non-deteriorating, cloth suspension - 4" paper cone midrange w/ Mylar dust cap - 3/4" Mylar dome tweeter with diffusion lens - Presence / Treble control for tailoring top-end Specs: Frequency Response: 30-22,000Hz Efficiency: 92dB 1w @ 1m Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each Cross-over frequencies: at 3.5kHz & 10kHz Recommended Power amplifier rating: 150 watts We have completely tested all drivers. Tested for all frequencies with a sweep generator. Wood grain vinyl wrapped cabinets in great condition with a few normal scuffs. Original knit, black grills also in great shape! Great "all around" sound and get very loud! Each measures 27" high x 14.5" wide x 13.5" deep and weighs 33 lbs each. Includes our standard speaker warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering). SANSUI S-917 Cond. 8.5 $399. pair |
