 * Our "parts units" & parts are primarily archived for the purpose of restoration / repair of "Oak Tree Vintage" units first. Only if we do not have a "viable" unit in yet, either already in process or in line to be processed, that may potentially need parts from a "parts unit", will we release available parts for sale. As many of you know, the restoration of a unit can be a long, time consuming process. We may "lock up" parts that we may potentially need in the restoration of a unit. Parts are priced by the "potential value" of the unit they can be applicable to (meaning the amount WE would be willing to pay for the part if that was all that was standing between us having a "shelved unit" or a valuable / sellable unit), time to extract, their rarity & their condition to name a few criteria. A non-response to an email request for a part (we may appear to have), likely means that we are still determining which parts we are going to need for the restoration or repair of one of our units. Again, the parts are first for the restoration of our units and secondarily for the public market. Since we list the parts available for ourselves, it is not much effort to modify the menu's for web publication. Frankly, publishing them to the web, in many instances, makes it easier for us to determine if we have the part for our needs as well. The alternative would be to not offer them at all to the public, however most parts are available to the public for sale. Thank you for your understanding.

and unless otherwise noted are in perfect shape! Where necessary foam
 surrounds have been replaced and / or speaker has been professionally

JUST FYI FOR FOLKS LOOKING FOR
 PIONEER
CS-99, CS-88a, CS-77a & 66G
MODEL SPEAKERS.
Pioneer, for some reason used foam surrounds on the tweeters of these models, CS-66G, CS-77, CS-88a & CS-99. After 20+ years, it will be difficult to find a pair that still has the foam intact (as foam surrounds generally have a useable lifespan of 10-15 years, depending on the environment they have spent the majority of their lives in). 
Almost 100% of the models we have seen have their tweeter foam rotted. WE have searched high and low for a 16 ohm replacement for the CS-88a, or an 8 ohm for the 77a, with no success.

However, you can now replace the foam your self.

ORANGE COUNTY SPEAKERS NOW HAS A REPLACEMENT SURROUND THAT WILL WORK ON THIS
IT WILL NEED TO BE TRIMMED SLIGHTLY ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT WORKS WELL.

    The tweeter just to the left is from the CS-77a. Looks good, but surround is rotted.


A visibly fine surround, is still bad and will visibly deteriorate after a few songs are played on them. We see these at on-line auctions often, and in every case the speakers either still have their rotted originals or a replacement tweeter, of some-sort installed. Due to the rarity of 16 ohm tweeters, we have to assume that the replacement tweeters the owners / sellers have installed are of incorrect impedance, which at the least, effects high-end efficiency (volume) & at worst can create load issues for whatever amplifier they are connected to. All this while using the word "Mint" or some similar adjective to list / describe the speakers. 
Again this is only prevalent in CS-77a, CS-88a and CS-99. It is not a factor with CS-77, CS-88, CS-99a, CS-33a, 66a or 901a's.

PS. We also see a similar problem with many other manufacturers' speakers like the Bose 301, 501, 601 & 901 speakers from 15+ years ago, except for the earliest versions of their speakers which used cloth surrounds. 

Any manufacturers' speaker utilizing foam surrounds (common from typically 1980 thru present) that is over 10 years old should be suspect, but the above mentioned models are almost a given.

PSS. Even though a speakers foam surrounds may "look" fine, they probably are not! Vintage speakers posted for sale by individuals & at auctions / yard sales have commonly not been in use for many years (other wise they probably wouldn't be for sale). In many cases, once you start playing them more than a couple minutes, you can watch the foam disintegrate right before your eyes, just by playing 2 or 3 songs at above average volume levels.

 ****There are two versions of Pioneer CS-77's (we are not referring to the slightly later CS-77A's) we know of. There is no external difference. You must remove the grills and / or back to determine which version you have. One with vented dust cap on the woofer and one without. It would not really be noticeable to substitute based on stock availability, but technically the vented dust cap would be more efficient if all else is equal. The tweeter in the "B" version, as we are calling them, is also much more efficient. Also the midrange has a slightly different number and the port is slightly different from one version to the other. This may or may not be advantageous to your needs. The grills are interchangeable. Version "A" drivers are all soldered in place, whereas the version "B" drivers all use removable "spade" type clips. 
     The version "B" speakers, as complete units do offer cleaner, more efficient "top-end" with much more definition and a bit more subdued midrange. The Version "A" speakers would sound similar to the "B's" by substituting the PT-222F-4 for the PT-222F (Again, not to be confused with the later CS-77A series. There a simply two different versions of the original CS-77's. We are simply calling them "A" and "B"). ****

Former JBL Vice President of Engineering Bart Locanthi joined Pioneer in 1975 as Vice President of Development. While at JBL, Locanthi designed some of the legendary drivers such as the 375 compression driver and the Linear Excursion Series LE-15 woofer. For Pioneer he authored the HPM series. These speakers were a direct assault on the JBL L100 and L200 series. The HPM speakers evolved into Pioneers superior Pro division TAD (Technical Audio Devices).

If you have an old Early-Mid 1970's Akai, Allied or Pioneer receiver / Amplifier that uses these, and have lost yours or need an additional set - here you go!
