![]() (Click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) SONY SONY TC-366 TC-355 These are a couple decks that we purchased from people who said it "works fine". They did actually FF, REW and move in Play mode, but that's where it ended. We knew they would need work, as all 20 to 40+ year old tape decks do have a number of things (typically 10-18 hours of tech time + parts) that need to be taken care of prior to being usable, but we don't see too many in as bad a shape as these were (click above photos for details). Again these are decks that came from someone who said they "work fine"! Be careful out there when you're getting excited about bidding on that "good deal" on that on line eb_y, Yahoo, Amazon or other auction that say's "all functions test fine and deck works as it should". Yeah, right. Just FYI. |

![]() NEW LISTING 2/16/08 (Click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) SONY TC-123 TC123 2-SPEED 2-TRACK / 1 CHANNEL PORTABLE TRANSISTOR 1/4" REEL-TO-REEL TAPE DECK Circa late 1960's for sale We have completely gone through this unit. All 4 main drive tires reconditioned for trouble-free service. Rubber pinch roller has been reconditioned, internal transport cleaned of old grease & re-lubed, capstan burnished, heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport. Pinch Roller swing arm disassembled, cleaned and re-lubed and also re-tensioned arm spring. Also hub brakes have been cleaned, re-lubed, and adjusted on fast wind modes also (even when these decks were new, they were famous for spooling off a bit of tape upon the first moment of "Stop". Motor has been re-lubed as well. All internal pots and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function. Both spindles in perfect alignment. Head in great shape as well, with many years of performance left. Plays well and does record although again, it's a portable so the recording results you get from them is "crude" at best as there's no monitoring of record signal as it happens and no level indicators, not to mention that their recording circuitry is fairly simple. Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition. Speed checked to 97.0% accuracy (Total time investment in refurb / testing ~ 4 hours). Only issue is that there's a compartment on the bottom (that originally held the microphone that is not included) and it's missing the door. Cosmetically in near new condition! ____________________________ Portable transistorized mini-reel to reel tape deck. The Sony TC-123. These were sold as entry level, low usage, tape recorders for applications where stereo or "Hi-Fidelity" were not required. The tape made on them were generally of very low quality and were for note taking, playing "letters to home" from Vietnam, practicing speeches or just for fun. If you have older tapes made by family members, that were made on a portable transistor (usually demonstrated from the 2.5" to 3.5" reel diameter) that you are interested in hearing or transferring to a different medium, such as CD ROM and you know that it was recorded on a 2-track, 1 channel (mono; record one side in mono then turn it over and record the other side in mono) tape recorder, then here you go. Also great if you have a media transfer business and need to transfer customer's "letters to home" tapes. If your tapes are stereo, or were made on a 4 track 1 or 2 channel machine, then you would be much better off using a normal, full-size reel to reel tape deck. These AC powered versions of small tape decks have a lot more motor power, less mechanical noise and are much more speed accurate and constant due to more powerful motors, where as the battery powered versions are very "sketchy" to use, due to more delicate transports / motors. We know, we've restored a few, and they "sort of work" at best. The TC-123 also is superior due to it's "capstan drive" transport as opposed to the cheaper "rim" drive found on the DC transports. Again, this one works great. Features include: - AC Powered - Capstan Drive (not cheaper "rim" drive) - Dual speeds at 3 3/4ips / 9.5 cms and extra long 1 7/8 ips / 4.75 cms (Speed changed with capstan sleeve) - Plays up to 3" reels - Input level / Volume control - 1/8" Mono Output Jack - 1/8" Mono Input Jack Again, deck has been gone through. Rubber drive rollers and reel hubs have been reconditioned & heads have been cleaned. (Total time investment in refurb ~ 4 hours) Works as well as it did originally. Even though it is shown in photos as standing almost vertically, it is best and was designed to be used, laying down horizontally on it's back. Best use would be for playing / transferring your old, 1/4", Mono, 2-track / 1 channel, 3 3/4 or 1 7/8 ips tapes to another media / format. We will include a cable to connect the 1/8" output to a pair of RCA's (mono to stereo). Measures 9" wide x 6" deep x 3" thick. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty for basic function. SONY TC-123 Cond. 8.5 $259. |

We will be getting more machines ready over the next few days or weeks, but it is a slow process, as every 20+ year old Reel to Reel tape deck requires 10-18 hours of service to be brought back to "usable" condition. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
*A note about Reverse / Auto-Reverse /: Reverse means that you can manual switch directions in play mode. You can generally do this at any point in the tapes travel. Auto-Reverse usually means that a deck will automatically switch play directions at the end. This is usually triggered by special foil tape installed on the tapes for sensors on the machine to pick-up. Some machines also require longer foil tape than others. Also decks vary in the side the foil tape has to be installed on to function. If you tape does not have the foil installed or it's foil is too short, or it happens to be installed on the wrong side, Auto-Reverse may not function. Auto-Reverse may only be designed to work in one direction as well. |

NEW LISTING 5/2/08 (Click on above thumbnails to enlarge photos) SONY TC-366 / 6360 TC366 TC6360 3-SPEED / 3-HEAD STEREO 1/4" REEL-TO-REEL TAPE DECK SOLD 6/13/08 "WORLD AC POWER" for sale We have completely gone through this unit. Entire internal transport / head plate assembly, disassembled, cleaned of old grease, re-lubed and reassembled. Rubber pinch roller has been reconditioned, as well as all internal drive tires / wheels for positive grip, capstan burnished, heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport. Pinch Roller swing arm disassembled and re-lubed. All four internal belts replaced with new for years of trouble-free service. Motor re-lubed. All internal pots and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function. Both spindles in perfect alignment. Internal level controls adjusted with factory test tones and an O-Scope. Heads in great shape as well, with many years of performance left in them and head alignment / azimuth has been checked for peak performance. Plays perfectly and records great @ -3db! (and we really put them through the paces, testing both with well mixed, recently recorded CD material and CD recorded / factory test tones looking for correct head Azimuth and speed accuracy). There is one issue with this deck in that the "Right" VU meter is consistently low in visual output. This is only a meter issue as the internal levels were set using our O-Scope. To record simply use the left meter and match index marks on the input level knobs. We verified this with 1kHz Sine wave, 20-20k pink noise and recorded material. Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition. Speed checked to 98.10% accuracy. (Total time investment in refurb / testing ~ 18+ hours. Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!! Deck looks great with only minor wear to the case. ____________________________ Nice performing Sony TC-366, 3-Speed, 3-Head, 1/4" Open Reel Stereo tape Record / Play deck. Great for all-around Recording and Playback of reels up to 7" in diameter. Also has all three consumer reel speeds as you will see listed below. 3-Head monitoring allows you to make the best quality recordings with no second guessing of tape levels since you can instantly check the recording a split second after it is made. Features include: - Triple Speed transport supporting 1 7/8 ips, 3 3/4 ips and 7 1/2 ips - 3-Head tape monitoring (a very high end feature for checking recording quality as the tape is actually being recorded) - Plays up to a 7" reel as well as 3" & 5" reels - Separate L & R input level controls - Sound-on-Sound recording (as it has independent record switches) - Auto-Stop - Dual analog VU meters for monitoring Playback and Record levels (again this unit does have the above mentioned issue with the right meter) - Separate Mic and Line input level controls - Built-in Noise Suppressor - Tape Type selector for Normal or High Bias - Dual front mounted 1/4" mic input jacks - 1/4" Stereo Headphone jack - Mechanical Tape counter - RCA & DIN inputs and outputs -True WORLD AC POWER allows unit to be operated on 50 or 60 Hz AC and will select voltages from 110v, 120v, 220v and 240 volts AC input. Again this deck has been completely gone through and with the exception of the right meter always appearing low, everything works great! This deck sounds great for a "nothing fancy & inexpensive" reel to reel deck. Exceptional performer sonically in both playback and record modes (and we are pretty critical). Can be used standing vertically or laying on it's back horizontally. Comes with one pair of correct and original SONY rubber reel retainers with Sony's metal clip insert. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty. Measures 16.25" wide x 8.5" deep x 15.75" tall and weighs 24 lbs unpacked. (Reels & tape shown in photos not included. All are usually available separately if you need them) SONY TC-366 Cond. 8.5 $599. SOLD 6/13/08 |

The counter belt was replaced. Both capstans burnished, heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport. Both pinch roller swing arms disassembled and re-lubed. Main triple element power supply filter capacitor replaced with 3 new, separate caps for years of trouble-free service. All internal pots and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function. Both spindles in perfect alignment. Heads in great shape as well, with many years of performance left in them and head alignment / azimuth has been checked for peak performance. Due to an issue with recording, we restored this as a "playback only" deck. Plays perfectly and sounds great! (and we really put them through the paces, testing both with well mixed, recently recorded CD material and CD recorded / factory test tones looking for correct head Azimuth and speed accuracy). Speed checked to 98.91% accuracy. (Total time investment in refurb / testing ~ 8+ hours. Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!! Deck does utilize rubber spindle stoppers, so it works best leaning back against something at an angle (if auto-stop function is desired, then deck should not be placed on it's back. Comes with one pair of rubber reel retainers. This would be a great deck for a media transfer business as it is so versatile as it is a 3-speed machine, that will play stereo or 4-channel mono tapes. We have NEVER, in 13 years and out of about 100 decks, had a machine that will do those function combinations. Also comes with a copy of the owners manual.
